Plenty of rain but a drought of goals

The positive note from the game was the first clean sheet since the win at Hitchin on the first day of September but there was disappointment that Banbury were unable to take all three points from the visit of Tamworth.

United were missing the injured Jack Self and with Ravi Shamsi's loan having ended, Giorgio Rasulo played in a more attacking role. Skipper Ricky Johnson partnered Lee Henderson in the heart of the defence.

Banbury's best chance of the game came on 10 minutes. Rasulo earned a corner then delivered it from the right causing havoc in the Tamworth defence. Finally the ball fell to Amer Awadh but his close range shot was brilliantly saved by Singh in the visitor's goal. Kaziboni set up Rasulo in right hand channel and he should have tested the keeper more severely, his sidefooted shot was comfortably saved at chest height. Rasulo also hit the side netting with a free kick just before the break.

Tamworth started the stronger in the second half with Kyle Finn causing a lot of problems for the home defence from his wide right position. However, Jack Harding was never really tested with dealing with shots from outside of the box and seeing dangerous crosses pass through the six yard area with no one on the end of them.

Banbury gained the ascendancy and went close to breaking the deadlock after a great spell of quick intricate passing released Rasulo in the right channel but his cross-shot skimmed off the face of the bar. He found himself in a similar position soon afterwards but opted to square the ball not shoot and his pass was intercepted.

There was a scare for Banbury on 84 minutes when they were unable to adequately clear a low cross that was blocked by Harding and the final goalbound shot from the resulting melee hit a prone Tamworth player.

Late Banbury pressure saw them earn three corners but being played short these did not produce any decent chances and they had to settle for the point.
