Disappointing Puritans beaten by stoppage-time winner

Banbury winless run in the league extended to five games after an injury-time winner from the visitors.

The match was preceded by a minute's silence in memory of former player, local referee and cricketer Cyril Green who passed away recently

Banbury gave a debut to Manny Agboola in goal, the 20 year old joining on loan from Oxford United in the week following the news that Jack Harding had injured his wrist in the defeat at Barwell the previous Tuesday.

Agboola was soon in action, comfortably dealing with a low Bola effort that lacked power but then needed a flying save high to his left to keep out a Gordon effort from the edge of the box.

Banbury came back into the game and Rasulo caught a visiting defender in possession to release Mills but he fired over.

Agboola was back the thick of the action and adjudged to have fouled Murray trying to gather a long ball on the left hand edge of the box. However, Gordon's resulting penalty was brilliantly saved high to his right.

Mills and Kaziboni linked up well with the former just shooting wide of the left hand post and close on half time a Rasulo free kick from the right was met by Jack Finch but his close range effort was mothered by Welch.

Royston missed a golden opportunity on 55 minutes when a long goal kick was allowed to bounce in the area, Whitehead's defensive heard fell to Castiglione but he volleyed wide from ten yards with the goal at his mercy.

Banbury enjoyed their best period of the game with Mills denied by Welch after a Nash through ball and then just unable to get onto a Rasulo pull back that was cleared for a corner. A deep Marvin Martin cross saw sub Self and Hawtin unable to connect the far post.

But Royston still carried a threat and sub Assombalonga brought out another fine save from Agboola and also strayed offside when heading home a right wing cross on 85 minutes.

Things looked good for Banbury in the last minute when Rasulo was brought down in the area but having converted his five previous spot kicks, this one hit the inside of the right hand post and spun away for a goal-kick. Worse was to follow in stoppage time; a long free kick from the keeper was flicked on and James Potton had time to strike a spectacular volley from the edge of the box into the top corner to win the game for the visitors.
