Banbury made their usual brisk start and Barwell were soon struggling to contain them. United were particularly effective on the right and it was from here that Charlie Hawtin crossed for the impressive Giorgio Rasulo to head home from close range with just eight minutes gone.
Five minutes later United went close to increasing their lead when a free-kick evaded John Mills and Barwell 'keeper Wycherley gratefully gathered. Banbury went close again in the 23rd minute when Ricky Johnson, making his 250th appearance, had the ball snatched away from him by the Barwell custodian following a right-wing cross. Sixty seconds later, with Banbury well on top, Wycherley again came to his team's rescue when he pulled off a superb save to push Rasulo's fierce shot round the post for a corner. United continued to be the dominant team until half-time but couldn't find a way through.
Barwell started the second-half with a lot more aggression and took the game to United. They equalised in the 51st minute in slightly fortunate fashion when a high, looping cross from the right dropped beyond the far post and struck the incoming Omotolani Omotola on chest and thigh to roll into the net.
The game was now a lot more even and the visitors had more of the ball as they pushed forward but United's defence held firm and Jack Harding had little to do. It was Banbury who went closest to taking the lead when, in the 67th minute, Rasulo ghosted past three players along the left bye-line, and pulled the ball back to substitute Roger Ngaah Bosio who fired into the side-netting.
As the game progressed, the visitors looked the more likely to score but it was United who snatched the winner in the 90th minute. Connor Roberts hit a long ball forward, substitute Jaanai Gordon expertly turned Barwell defender Henry Eze, controlled the ball with his head and ran on to beat Wycherley with a great finish from a tight angle.
Barwell's ended the game with 10 ten men when left-back Jacob Whitmore was sent off in injury time for a second bookable offence.
