Puritans' suffer their first loss of the season

From the opening whistle, Banbury took control of things and their right-wing play in particular caught the Kings cold they looked for an early breakthrough. In the second minute, a right-wing cross from Giorgio Rasulo to the near post saw Kings Langley 'keeper Melvin Minter punch the ball clear off Ricky Johnson's head, a feat he twice repeated in the first quarter-hour.

Once the visitors had dealt with the early pressure they started to get into the game and soon had Banbury defending in numbers. Their first real chance arrived in the 31st minute when a free-kick from the left, ten yards inside the Banbury half, saw Jorell Johnson's glancing back-header brilliantly touched over the crossbar by Jack Harding to keep the scoreline blank. Four minutes later, following a cross from the left, the visitors saw a goal-bound shot headed off the line by Ricky Johnson, who was fouled in the process.

In the 39th minute the inevitable opener arrived when Matthew Campbell-Mhlope cut inside, sidestepped his defender and slotted the ball home past the advancing Harding from 8 yards out to give the visitors an interval lead.

Five minutes after the break, Banbury were very unlucky when Johnson sent the ball through for John Mills who, in a classy piece of skill, lobbed the ball over his defender and then touched it over the fast-advancing Minter only to see his effort hit the crossbar and bounce back into play where it was gratefully cleared by Kings Langley.

The visitors' constant time-wasting tactics went unpunished by the referee and became more blatant in the final 30 minutes of the game. This was much to the displeasure of the home supporters and the frustration of John Mills who was penalised in the 66th minute for a push on Kings' 'keeper Minter, who had been taking every opportunity to run down the clock. From the free-kick, taken some distance forward from the point of the offence, Kings Langley caught United out with a quick break down the right by McKeown. His low cross was side-footed home from close range by Campbell-Mhlope.

Banbury looked a different outfit after making substitutions and in the last 15 minutes they were the only team in the game as they pushed the Kings back in defence. They deservedly pulled a goal back in the 80th minute when Connor Roberts crossed from the left and substitute Jaanai Gordon dived in to head home at the near post but despite continual pressure, the visitors held on for the three points.

Banbury: Jack Harding, Connor Roberts, Gedeon Okito (Roger Ngaah 79), Jack Westbrook, Charles Hawtin, Giorgio Rasulo, Claudio Dias, Amer Awadh (Anderson Cayola 53), Lee Henderson, John Mills (Jaanai Gordon 66), Ricky Johnson.
