This was a game that had just about everything, and was a great example of why watching non-league football is so rewarding. Banbury had new loan signing, Ryan Nesbitt from Solihull Moors, making his debut, and in the second minute he was put through one-on-one with the Biggleswade 'keeper Samuel Donkin, but he fluffed his shot and the 'keeper saved easily. In the 8th minute, it got as close as it is likely to get when Eddie Odhiambo played a pass up the right to Nesbitt who killed the ball stone dead before placing a perfect pass inside to Jaanai Gordon. He in turn sent the ball to Giorgio Rasulo in the middle who made himself room before despatching his shot which beat Donkin but cannoned off the foot of the post and the rebound just eluded Gordon before being cleared.
However, against the run of play, Biggleswade took the lead in the 14th minute when a long throw from the right caught Banbury lacking at the back and the ball was only partly cleared, but the impressive Gradi Milenge smashed the ball home from the narrowest of angles to give 'The Waders' an unlikely lead. The game then swung from end to end and United had to wait until the 38th minute for the equaliser. Young Town player, Kyjuon Marsh-Brown, who had earlier earned himself a yellow card, was lucky to not get another when his lack of experience let him down, and he fouled Pablo Haysham just inside the penalty area on the right. It seemed an age before the resultant penalty kick was taken, as the referee booked the Waders' manager Lee Allinson, before Gordon drove the ball fiercely home from the spot to even up the score.
The rest of the first half was all Banbury, as they searched for the lead, and in the 43rd minute Donkin did well to save a splendid Rasulo effort. Then, in the first minute of first-half injury time, Jack Harding came to Banbury's rescue when he saved well from Joseph White after the Biggleswade front man raced clear of United's defence.
The major turning point of the game arrived, three minutes into the second-half when Marsh-Brown got a second yellow card for a needless foul, and he was sent off, leaving Town to play almost half of the game with ten men. However, the best compliment to pay the visitors was that they rarely looked a man down, as they gave their all in a rousing post interval encounter. It got harder though on the hour when United were awarded a free-kick, some 22 yards out and Rasulo sent a fantastic free-kick over the wall and into the top corner to deservedly put Banbury ahead.
With the extra man advantage, United could maybe be forgiven for thinking that they had done enough, but they were woken up with a fright in the 85th minute when substitute Drew Richardson thumped the ball home from a narrow angle when they had failed to deal with a long ball into the middle, and it looked like two points lost at the death. It could have been worse when another great chance for the visitors went begging in the last minute, Richardson this time blazing over the bar from 10 yards.
However, United had other ideas, and in the second minute of 'time-added-on', they got a perfectly-timed winner. Odhiambo and Haysham worked the ball up the right, and when the latter swung the ball into the middle, Gordon converted the chance in spectacular style with a flying header at the far post to seal all three points, and push Banbury up to second place, level on points with the top.
