With players missing through injury or illness, Banbury still looked the stronger of the two sides from the start, but the good approach play, especially up the left flank, was let down by the lack of end-product and home 'keeper Saul Deeney had little to do early on. Jack Harding came close to an embarrassing moment when he let a soft back pass under his foot but luckily for him the ball ran harmlessly past the post. Up front, Craig Fasanmade, whilst working hard and causing problems to the home defence with his speed and agility, was ploughing a lone furrow.
Against the run of play, United's task became a lot more difficult in the 23rd minute when the Ravens took the lead. While pushing forward, United lost control in midfield, and Tim Berridge raced through the middle. He released the ball to his left to Tom McGlinchey, who placed the ball wide of Harding and into the net from 12 yards.
Almost immediately following the restart, Banbury were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area and Giorgio Rasulo's effort was very well saved by Deeney, pushing the ball round the post for a corner. Banbury then again went close, this time when Deeney repeated his earlier effort by tipping a John Mills shot over the crossbar for another corner. As the half came to a close, Berridge, after being put in by McGlinchey, went close when it looked easier to score.
The second-half developed as the first, with United well on top but again their excellent approach play petered out as they neared goal, with no one confident enough to have a shot from outside the area. The home side started to get back into the game as the play reached the mid-way point in the half, and Banbury were forced back to defend more deeply. However, they still managed to push forward between home attacks, and in the 72nd minute they forced another corner. When Coalville failed to clear the ball, Jack Westbrook nodded the loose ball into the empty net to give United a well-deserved equaliser.
With end-to-end play now being the order of the day, Harding did well to save from a Luke Shaw effort in the 81st minute, and Deeney did the same at the other end with another good save from Fasanmade at the near post after good work by Ahmed on the right.
As the final whistle came closer, Banbury were under severe pressure, especially after Kynan Isaac was shown a red card following a second yellow in the first minute of injury time. Either side could have won the game, but a draw was a fair result on the balance of play.
