United began the game well and were unfortunate not to take the lead on the quarter of an hour mark when Albi Skendi struck a superb shot from 25 yards which rattled the post before coming out.
Poole responded well though and five minutes later Marvin Brooks was set through on goal down the right by an excellent cross field pass by Steve Devlin, only for his shot to go inches wide of the far post.
As the half drew to a conclusion Dominic Lawless had an excellent chance from ten yards but screwed his shot wide.
Banbury had probably the better of the chances in the first half but Poole came out for the second period and were much improved.
On 48 minutes Carl Preston’s shot looked destined for the back of the net, only for the Poole man to be denied by an excellent save from United goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell.
Poole went on to dominate the rest of the half, the longer the half went on the more dominant the visitors became. They had a couple of decent chances, in particular from a corner Will Spetch somehow managed to put the ball over from close-in when it looked easier to score.
However, there was also some excellent work done by centre backs Wayne Blossom and Tom Ryan and some sound handling and goalkeeping from Bedwell which kept United on level terms.
In fact, though it would have been a clear injustice, United could have snatched a winner in the final minute when a Scott Bridges corner from the right fell to Kynan Issac on the edge of the penalty area, only for the shot to go just a foot over the bar.
Poole will feel it was two points dropped after the way they went on to dominate the second period. However, though United were hanging on at the end, they defended well which earned them the point and you have to give the boys at the back credit for that, the clean sheets are becoming a nice habit!
