There was a debut for 18 year-old goalkeeper and Wingate & Finchley youth product Hafed Al-Droubi who came in for the unwell Wolves loanee Scott Dutton having only previously been on the bench for United after signing in January. Nic Evangelinos and Tanasheh Abrahams also came into the side replacing Conor Collins and Carl Tappin who had to be satisfied with places on the bench.
United got off to the best of starts going in front as early as the fourth minute when an Anderson Pinto cross from the right was knocked into his own net by Max York.
The lead would last just five minutes though when a corner from the left saw a header from Brett Donnelly hit the post but York was on hand to make up for his own goal by striking the rebound home. Three minutes later another corner from the left saw a Evan Key header at the far post tipped onto the underside of the bar by Al-Droubi in the Banbury goal before the ball came down and was hacked away.
United were behind in the 23rd minute when Donnelly got on to the end of a Craig Daniel flick through and lobbed Al-Droubi from the edge of the penalty area. However, United were back level just two minutes later when Anderson Pinto took the ball inside from the right wing before striking a left foot shot into the far corner of the net from a narrow angle.
Banbury were so unlucky not to take the lead in the 30th minute when a free-kick from Luke Cray just inside United's half was pumped forward to the right hand side of the penalty area where Kynan Isaac chested the ball down into the path of Nic Evangelinos who took the ball through but then had the misfortune to see his shot from ten yards and from a narrow angle hit the underside of the bar and then the far post before coming out.
Biggleswade went 3-2 up in the 35th minute when a cross from the right by Craig Daniel fell to Jon Woolf who scored from close in
In stoppage time at the end of the first half Biggleswade were two goals to the good. Evan Key was brought down just outside the penalty area on the left and Lee Allinson struck a 20 yard free-kick over the wall and though Al-Droubi got a hand to the ball he could not stop it entering the top corner of the net.
United were right back in the game five minutes into the second half when Claudio Dias headed home at the far post a Kynan Isaac cross from the right and then on 58 minutes Isaac himself drew United level at 4-4 when he got to a long pass down the middle from Anthony Obeng just ahead of Alex Taylor in the Biggleswade goal who had come out to gather the ball and with the custodian on the ground and appealing for a foul he knocked the ball home into the empty net.
United went ahead 5-4 at the midway point of the second half when Albi Skendi got on to a long pass down the middle from Marcus Green and then with just the custodian to beat he duly did so competently slotting the ball home.
Eleven minutes from time a long cross field pass from Skendi wide on the left found Isaac on the right who took the ball inside the penalty area before hitting a glorious shot across the goalkeeper into the far corner of the net for his second goal of the game to make it 6-4.
A minute later and Biggleswade should have been right back in the game when Luke Fathers brought down Evan Key just inside the penalty area on the right but Al-Droubi did well to save Allinson’ spot-kick low down to his right.
There were ten minutes of stoppage time but not many more scares for United and they comfortably held out to pick up the three points which with AFC Totton losing to Redditch United tonight means it will be another season of Southern League Premier Division football for United to look forward to next season.
Remarkably this is the first time United have scored six or more goals in a league game since they returned to the Southern League fourteen seasons ago!
