Our run of unbeaten games came to an end today as we succumbed to Summertown Stars Ladies. The game was even for the first 20 minutes, but it was Summertown who took the initiative taking the lead in the 22nd minute with a second goal following on 25 minutes when Banbury lost possession while attacking and Summertown broke well to make it 2-0 on the counterattack.

Summertown grabbed a third just before half time when we failed to close down their player who scored with a shot from the edge of the Banbury box.

Half Time: Banbury United Women 0 Summertown Stars Ladies 3

We started the second half positively and Ellie Mander pulled one back running on to a goal kick from keeper, Ash Souter.
Summertown re-established their three-goal advantage when Banbury failed to deal with a corner which ended up in the back of the Banbury net.

Banbury responded well and had several opportunities but failed to add to their scoreline.

A disappointing first half, an improved performance in the second half. Lessons learnt ready for next week’s trip to Stewkley.
