A bright sunny morning greeted the players and parents down in Wallingford.
Crowmarsh began the stronger of the 2 teams with the best chances before an excellent Banbury counter attacking move saw Rowyn Moore in on goal to put the Puritan Juniors 1 up. However, a defensive mix up 1 minute later was taken advantage of as Crowmarsh pulled deservedly level.
It got worse for the Banbury boys 2 minutes later as a fierce shot was saved only for Crowmarsh to follow up for a 2-1 lead. Crowmarsh went on to get a 3rd shortly before the half time whistle as a free kick on the edge of the area was tipped over the bar. The resulting corner was followed by a clever low diving header which the keeper could not do much about.
The 2nd half was much brighter for Banbury and Kai Source was very unlucky not to get on the score sheet after a fantastic move saw his effort go narrowly over the bar. The boys continued to create good chances but Crowmarsh remained resilient creating one or two chances of their own. The Banbury boys appeared to run out of steam midway through the 2nd half after a breakaway goal against the run of play saw Crowmarsh score a 4th.
Despite the boys best efforts a goal mouth scramble fell Crowmarsh’s way and dangerous play across Banbury’s back line was seized on as Crowmarsh ran out 6-1 winners. A good effort from both sides in an entertaining match.
