Banbury United 3-0 Easington Sports

After a short break, several signings later, preparations kicked off this afternoon for the new season and challenges to be faced in the Vanarama National League North. The rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the Puritans faithful.

Both sides started off tentatively, Puritans had the lion’s share of possession, while Easington never gave up and kept plugging away. First chance four our visitors came from Ibrahima Gueye, Ben Taylor in between the Puritans sticks dealt with it comfortably. The scoring was opened by Connor Roberts on 15 minutes with a calm blast from outside the area to the applause of the damp crowd. No other real chances for either side during the first half.

New signing Jak Hickman was a particularly busy player in the first 45 minutes. Harvey Beckett popped up on 37 minutes scoring on the turn to give the home side the advantage going into the halftime break.

Josh Flanagan headed the ball into the net to extend the Puritans' lead in the second period on 62 minutes and that was to be the last chance for either side in the match.

It was a good workout for the squad after the off-season to ease back into the challenges approaching this season taking the majority of possession although Easington Sports had their bright moments.

Team manager Andy Whing spoke with Puritans radio after the match and said, “Today was fantastic to get the lads back out there. Today was a really good game for us we had a lot of the ball which was good, next week is a tough game”.
