5. Disability Football

The Banbury Disability Football Partnership - a collaboration between Banbury United, Easington Sports and Adderbury Park football clubs - is providing a full youth pathway for players aged 5 to 15 to feed into the existing adult football provision currently delivered by Easington Sports FC.

The long-term aim of the partnership is to provide disability recreational/team opportunities for U12, U14, U16 and adult players in Banbury, which is best achieved currently, by all clubs pulling their resources together.

Inclusive football sessions take place on Sundays at Longford Park FC in Banbury between 11 and 12 noon. It is just £2 per session to attend.

Ryan Jones, Banbury United’s community coach, who is part of the Sunday coaching team set-up, said, “We’d really like to spread the word to other families locally, that there is now somewhere in Banbury for your child to play football on a Sunday. You no longer have to travel to Oxford to get suitable coaching.

“The partnership prefers the term inclusive rather than disability football. Our doors are open to those boys and girls with physical or learning difficulties and also any youngster for whom there isn’t a fit with the regular competitive football provision on offer.

“The four local clubs are pulling together to put on the best session, which will be split into two age groups. Longford Park FC has a great facility where we can play; other clubs are supplying coaches,” concluded Ryan.
