Banbury United return to Southern League Premier Central action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Sixways Stadium to face Worcester City.

The Puritans will be looking to bounce back from successive defeats, having lost 2-1 to Exmouth Town in their FA Cup replay before suffering a 2-1 home defeat to Leiston in their most recent league outing.

Banbury United

Kelvin Langmead's side currently sit 18th in the Premier Central table, with five points from their opening seven matches.

United's league campaign began with a goalless draw at Bishop's Stortford before they recorded their first victory of the season against Racing Club Warwick.
Since then, however, Banbury have struggled to turn performances into points. A 3-1 defeat at Real Bedford was followed by a 3-2 loss at Rushall Olympic, before a 1-1 draw with Stourbridge and a 3-0 defeat away at Anstey Nomads.

The Puritans then returned home against Leiston last time out, taking an early lead through Connor Ferguson before the visitors came from behind to win 2-1.

That result leaves Banbury with one win, two draws and four defeats from their seven league fixtures, with seven goals scored and 13 conceded.

Worcester City

Worcester currently sit one place above Banbury in 17th, also on five points from seven matches.
Chris Cornes' side have endured a similarly difficult start to the campaign, recording one win, two draws and four defeats.

Their sole league victory came at home to Stamford in August, while they have also picked up draws against Stratford Town and Bromsgrove Sporting.
Worcester's most recent league fixture ended in a 2-0 defeat away at Needham Market, meaning they will also be looking for a response when Banbury arrive at Sixways.

There is, however, some positive momentum around the hosts after they progressed in the FA Cup on Friday night.

Worcester came from behind to beat Stratford Town 2-1 at Sixways, with Charlie Lutz scoring twice in the second half to send City into the Third Qualifying Round.

Charlie Lutz will be the obvious player for Banbury's defence to watch.

The forward was central to Worcester's FA Cup comeback against Stratford, scoring both goals after half-time to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 victory. He also scored against Spalding United on the final day of last season and was named Worcester City's Owners' Player of the Year for 2025/26.

Previous Meetings

The two sides have already met twice in the past year, with both encounters ending in draws.

The first meeting of the 2025/26 campaign came at the TUGO Community Stadium in August 2025, when the sides played out a 1-1 draw. Ferguson gave Banbury the lead in the first half before Worcester equalised.

The return fixture at Sixways in January produced another narrow contest, but this time Banbury took all three points. Ferguson scored the only goal of the game in the 77th minute as the Puritans secured a 1-0 victory.
